What "Simulation & Stimulation" actually means, explained by Dr Steven Goh
Answer first

Simulation & Stimulation is a non-surgical session of about 3 hours. "Simulation" gives thinning areas a visibly fuller look on the day. "Stimulation" is scalp care that focuses on the scalp environment. It is a cosmetic service, not a medical treatment, and we don't claim it grows new hair.

Why the name has two halves

When I lost my own hair to family genetics, I noticed that people want two different things. They want to look better soon, and they want to look after the scalp they still have. Most services only talk about one of these. Simulation & Stimulation puts both into one planned session, so the name is a description of the plan, not a slogan.

Clients often ask which half matters more. The honest answer is that it depends on you. Someone with a widening part may care most about the look on the day. Someone with an oily, flaky scalp may care more about the routine. We talk about both at the scalp check, and the plan follows what you tell us.

Simulation: the look you can see

Simulation works on how dense your hair looks. In thinning areas, the session creates the appearance of more hair units, so the scalp shows through less under normal light. You see the change in the mirror before you leave the centre, which is why many people describe it as the part that gives them confidence back.

It is still a cosmetic change. It does not change your genes or your hair cycle, and how long the look lasts varies with your hair, scalp, lifestyle and aftercare. We would rather say this clearly than promise a number of months or years.

Stimulation: caring for the scalp environment

Stimulation is the scalp-care half. It focuses on cleansing, comfort and the condition of the skin your hair grows from. Research on hair biology shows that follicles go through cycles of growth, rest and shedding, and that the scalp around them matters. That is background science, not a test of our session.

In practice, this half is about habits as much as the session itself: how you wash, how you dry, what you put on your scalp and when you come back for a review. Your therapist gives you a simple aftercare list to take home.

What it is not

It is not surgery, there is no transplant and there is no general anaesthetic. It is also not a diagnosis. If your hair loss is sudden, patchy, painful or comes with other symptoms, please see a doctor first, because those signs can point to conditions a hair centre should not handle.

No published study has tested Simulation & Stimulation as a named method. When we mention research, it is about ingredients or general approaches, and we say what each study does and does not show. If you want to talk it through, our team at Folli-Doc, NPM Malaysia or Anggun Pakar Rambut can explain it at a free scalp check.
