How we decide if you're suitable: the pre-session scalp scan

Not everyone should book a session straight away. Here is what the magnified scalp scan looks for, and when we send you to a doctor instead.

How we decide if you're suitable: the pre-session scalp scan
Answer first

Before any Simulation & Stimulation session we do a magnified scalp scan. It shows the pattern of thinning, the condition of the scalp and any warning signs. If the scan suggests a medical cause, such as patchy loss, scaling with pain or sudden heavy shedding, we advise you to see a doctor before booking anything with us.

What the scan shows

A scalp camera magnifies the skin and hair many times over. On screen we can see how close hairs sit together, whether some strands look finer than others, and whether the skin looks oily, dry, red or flaky. You see the same images, so the conversation is about something real rather than a sales pitch.

We usually take images of the hairline, the crown and the part, plus a comparison area at the back of the head. Comparing areas helps explain why the top can look thinner even when the back looks thick.

Who is usually a good fit

People with gradual thinning at the hairline, crown or part, a calm scalp and realistic expectations tend to be good candidates. Women with a widening part and men with a receding hairline are both common. Reviews in dermatology note that the condition of the scalp can affect how hair looks and is kept, which is one reason we look at the skin and not only the hair.

Being a good fit does not mean you have to book. Some people decide to start with home care first, and that is a reasonable choice.

When we say "see a doctor first"

Some signs are outside what a hair centre should handle: round bald patches, painful or weeping skin, thick scaling, sudden shedding after illness or a new medicine, or hair loss with tiredness, weight change or other symptoms. In these cases we would rather pause and refer you than start a cosmetic session.

You can come back after seeing your doctor. Many clients do, and the plan is better for it.

Questions

Is the scalp scan free?

Yes. The scalp check is free and there is no obligation to book a session.

Will you tell me if I'm not suitable?

Yes. If the scan suggests a medical cause or the session is unlikely to meet your goal, we will say so.
