Iron, thyroid and hair loss: when to get a blood test
Answer first

Low iron stores, thyroid problems and some vitamin deficiencies can all cause or worsen hair thinning, especially in women. If you also feel tired, cold, or notice changes in weight or periods, ask a doctor about blood tests before spending on hair products, because fixing the cause comes first.

Iron

Low ferritin is common in women with heavy periods or plant-based diets. Only supplement after a test.

Thyroid

Both underactive and overactive thyroid can thin hair. Treatment by a doctor often lets hair recover.

Other checks

Your doctor may also look at vitamin D, B12 and other factors depending on your symptoms.

Questions

Should I just take iron pills?

No; too much iron can harm. Test first and follow your doctor.

Can scalp care still help?

Yes, alongside medical treatment it supports a healthy scalp.
