Some people shed more hair in the first weeks of using minoxidil. A common explanation is that resting hairs are pushed out as follicles move into a new growth phase. It is usually temporary. If shedding is heavy, lasts beyond a few months or comes with irritation, talk to your consultant or a doctor.
Why it happens
Research describes minoxidil shortening the resting phase, so old hairs fall as new ones start.
What to do
Keep a photo diary, be gentle when washing, and ask for advice if you are worried.

Topical minoxidil shortens telogen and pushes resting follicles into anagen in animal studies, may prolong anagen and enlarge follicles; the potassium-channel mechanism remains unproven.PubMed 14996087doi:10.1111/j.1365-2133.2004.05785.x
